About the Michigan Road Preservation Association
Who We Are
The Michigan Road Preservation Association (MRPA) serves as the unified voice of Michigan’s pavement preservation and preventive maintenance industry. As a 501(c)(6) trade association, we bring together contractors, engineers, public agencies, and industry partners who share a common goal: extending the life of Michigan’s roadways through proven, cost-effective preservation strategies.
Our Mission
MRPA is dedicated to advancing best practices that help communities get the most out of every mile of roadway. We believe that proactive maintenance—not reactive repair—is the key to maintaining safe, reliable roads while maximizing taxpayer investment in infrastructure.
What We Do
Our members specialize in extending the life of existing pavements through proven preservation methods—from crack seal and joint repair to advanced surface treatments including chip seal, fog seal, and micro surfacing. These cost-effective techniques protect infrastructure investments while improving safety and performance for road users.
Each treatment serves a specific purpose: crack seal prevents water intrusion, chip seal provides a durable new wearing surface, and micro surfacing corrects surface irregularities while restoring friction. By matching the right treatment to each road’s condition, we help Michigan communities maximize the value of their pavement investments.
Our Impact
The “mix of fixes” approach championed by MRPA is widely adopted by the Michigan Department of Transportation and local road agencies across the state. By applying the right treatment at the right time, these partners can extend pavement service life, prevent costly reconstructions, and keep Michigan’s roads in better condition for years to come.
Our Commitment to Quality
We don’t just advocate for preservation—we ensure it’s done right. MRPA provides training, specifications, and best practices that maintain high standards across the industry, protecting both the investment in our roads and the safety of Michigan drivers.
